New York

Bahamas Cruises to New York

New York City has something for everyone. It is North America's most cosmopolitan destination, and boasts of an artistic and cultural history that reigns supreme among American cities. It is fast paced, loud, and certainly never boring. Its sights and sounds are a glorious combination of everything imaginable. From Bohemian Greenwich Village to the elegant Upper East Side, the diversity here is sure to astound you.

Historic Battery Park is an educational mecca. Little Italy and Chinatown have marvelously maintained their immigrant population and heritage. Today they offer a cultural richness that is truly a gift to the city. Soho (South of Houston St.) and Tribeca (Triangle Below Canal St.) exist on the cutting edge of fashion and style, and are proof of an industrial area's potential for chic. Gramercy Park will make you feel as if you have somehow made your way to London. The Flatiron District has become famous for its technology boom, or Silicon Alley. Chelsea is a hip, European-feeling area that is home to many of New York's photography studios and galleries. These are just some of the city's gems, each offering a unique flavor and pace. Visitors could spend days in any one of them, but for the ultimate New York experience, make your trip a mélange of them all. To truly see the city could take a lifetime, but sampling from the bits and pieces of New York's variety is a treat for any tourist.

Orientation is key to navigating this city. Terms like uptown and downtown are literal descriptions referring to north and south. If you are south of your destination, locals will tell you to go uptown, and vice versa. The terms also refer vaguely to areas of the city. Uptown describes anywhere above lower Manhattan (north of about 34th St.), and downtown usually means lower Manhattan (34th St. and below) through Chelsea, which begins near 22nd St. You will also hear east side, and west side, referring to the areas above 59th St. that are on either side of Central Park.

Port Canaveral

Bahamas Cruises to Port Canaveral

The Space Coast, as the area around Port Canaveral has come to be known, has become one of the top tourist destinations in Florida. The magnificent Kennedy Space Center is the embodiment of the promise that President John F. Kennedy made to the nation in the early 1960?s. Even after hundreds of space explorations, shuttle launches at Cape Canaveral are still a special event.

Although it's easy to spend an entire day at the Kennedy Space Center, there is plenty more to see and do around Port Canaveral. For one, the government purchased too much land around Cape Canaveral. Instead of just selling it back, the land has been designated as wildlife refuges and nature preserves. Nature lovers will not want to miss the beautiful hikes through Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, or the gorgeous sights that surround the Canaveral National Seashore. Just south of Cape Canaveral is Cocoa Beach, which has become a surfer's nirvana. Temperate weather and bodacious waves have transformed this beach into a year-round party.

Port Canaveral is a man-made port, with lots of cruise ships using it as an entryway to ports of call throughout the Caribbean. The area around the port has been beautifully developed, with shops and restaurants dotting the waterfront. Fishing boats and gambling cruises have added to the carnival that surrounds Port Canaveral.

The best way to enjoy the Space Coast is by balancing your day. Spend the morning marveling at the technological wonders of space exploration. Then, take a picnic lunch to the nature reserves, enjoying the serenity afforded you here. Finally, top off the day by admiring the sunset from a waterfront restaurant on Cocoa Beach. Spacing out your time will allow you to fully enjoy everything that the Space Coast has to offer.

Nassau

Bahamas Cruises to Nassau

Nassau, the capital of New Providence Island in the Bahamas, is a majestic, scenic adventure that you do not want to miss. This is one of the premier cruise sites in the entire world, and as a result, tourism to this island is growing every year. New Providence has become the priority of all of the political officials who control the region, because this pink-sand beach marvel is emerging as the number one hot spot in the Bahamas. Only about one hundred miles from Miami, New Providence, and Nassau in particular, is a wonderful choice to enjoy a glorious vacation.

The Bahamas is in fact the most geographically complex nation in all of the Atlantic. A coral-based series of islands, it is made up of over 700 islands, 2,000 cays, and hundreds of rocky masses that have brought destruction to sea going vessels in the area for centuries. New Providence is a significant portion of the 100,000 square miles of dry land that comprises The Bahamas. Each region in the vicinity is separately governed, and this applies to New Providence, as well as the Turks and Caicos Islands.

In 1964 Great Britain granted The Bahamas internal governed rule. After many centuries of colonial rule, The Commonwealth of The Bahamas took control in 1973, and at that time the fledgling nation drafted its own constitution but remained tied to Britain to a certain extent. The island has remained in the Commonwealth, and the British monarch still holds as its head of state. The Bahamas keeps a two-house Parliament, and this also remains in accordance with the policy of Great Britain. A Bahamian general, appointed by the Queen, represents the Crown.

The citizens of New Providence, and especially Nassau, are friendly and quite helpful as you travel throughout the area. Be certain to ask them any questions you may have about their wonderful beaches, extravagant dining facilities, and wide array of water sports.

Freeport

Bahamas Cruises to Freeport

Freeport, on Grand Bahama Island in The Bahamas, is an extraordinary destination. The white-sand beaches and friendly locals are only the beginning of this tropical paradise. The island is just 50 miles off the coast of Florida, making it easily accessible by boat. A cruise to The Bahamas is like taking a cruise straight to heaven.

Grand Bahama Island is a significant portion of the 100,000 square miles of dry land that comprise The Bahamas.

Before the 1950?s, Freeport was a pinewood forest and was nearly uninhabited. Tourism was all but nonexistent. It took only one man's vision to make Freeport the tourism mecca that it is today. Wallace Groves felt that this quiet island could be completely transformed into a miniature Miami, and was he ever right! Today the island features high-rise hotels, a giant casino, outstanding dining facilities, marinas, and so much more.
